Does social media seem like a fad to you or a disruptive shift in the way businesses market themselves? If so, you need to read the Inc. Magazine article which states that 91% of businesses have tried social media to promote their business. By itself, that doesn't validate that social media works, but if your competition is using social media and you are not, then you need to ask yourself the question "what does my competiton know that I don't"?
By very definition social media is media that engages people in a social manner. The benefits and advantages of social media marketing are generating more business exposure (according to 88% of marketers), increased web site traffic (72%), improved search engine page rankings (62%), and new qualified leads (51%). A vast majority of marketers (93%) signalled they were employing social media for marketing purposes, indicating that social media has turned mainstream as a marketing channel. Marketers are spending more time using social media to promote and reach their potential clients:
- 58% of marketers are using social media for 6 hours or more each week
- 34% of marketers are using social media for 11 or more hours weekly.
- 15% of marketers spend more than 20 hours each week on social media.
